Week8: The Design of Everyday Things

This is my water. This is my everyday object. Why do I start the day with this bottle of water?. This is great example how design can impact marketing campaigns and demonstrates that we the users prefer a well design, and appealing objects. Function and form together.I choose this bottle not only for the content that is better that pure H20 but also for the label, the color and even the type face floating in the negative space, the plastic texture feels solid and maybe I can re-used the same bottle.

Week 7: A Whole New Mind:Presentation

Design is part of the six senses needed in the conceptual age. Develop a design sensibility and be able to generate high design concepts is an appetizing skill. Our group presentation were focus mostly in western design. I see and validated the comments of the need of providing and bringing opportunities to developing and third world countries. The designer role can be socially responsible and committed to help and attend the needs of the other 90% of the population.

The chapter is focused more in object and graphics design. I believe that the same design principles can be applied and used when designing an instruction. FORMS. Instructional designers can create meaningful FORMS that support the learning. Here is where the interface design has the stellar role. How to make the user click this button and not this other one when navigating a learning site. It is all about the design. Good v/s bad design. Usability and design can coexist simultaneously.

Finally I want to add the image of the sadly disappeared Dutch money. Maybe this was in honor to such as unconventional design bill. The dutch have a great sense of design awareness and we should learn from them. Thank you very much to The Netherlands!.

Week6:A Whole New Mind

Here is a fragment of the video used to report the statistics from the PEW/INTERNET
"Teens Content Creators and Consumers". This survey was conducted in 2004. I m sure that the results now are quite different.

We also started to review the great Pink's book "A whole New Mind".

Week 5 A Face Reader

I watched this video in Wired Science,a new program of PBS. A software engineer from MIT developed a software that can read almost 60% of facial expressions. This software helps to improve communications skills in person with some sort of communications disorder.

This cutting edge technology can very helpful for our guest speaker from University of Hawaii and the content for her dissertation:Teaching with technology learning research.
